SARLAT and its Market
The 13th Century and the early 14th Century were prosperous times for Sarlat fairs and markets. Then the Hundred Year War ruined the town. It is during the 15th and early 16th Centuries that Sarlat was rebuilt, a wealthy middle-class became established, amongst them traders who were able to thrive.
Today, the market is still very busy and colourful, at the heart of the city, where poultry, walnuts, foie gras and truffles are sold. All the Perigord gastronomy is represented: goose preserve, duck magret, strawberries, cepes...
